Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa recently addressed the future of the Work From Home (WFH) arrangement for ASN (Aparatur Sipil Negara). The policy, introduced to save costs amid rising global oil prices, has been in effect since 01 April 2026 and allows civil servants to work from home one day a week, on Fridays.

In a briefing at the Ministry of Finance office in Central Jakarta on 04 Mei 2026, Purbaya explained that the government will first monitor how oil prices evolve before deciding whether to revert the system to a normal office schedule. He added that if the price trend improves, the WFH arrangement could be lifted.

“Oh, kita lihat dulu seperti apa perkembangan harga minyak dunia. Kita lihat apakah kita perlu masih ngirit sedikit-sedikit apa enggak.

He also weighed the economic implications of the policy. Purbaya noted that the physical restrictions at workplaces are likely to have a neutral-to-positive effect on the economy. While other factors may slow growth, the impact is expected to be short‑term.

Earlier, Minister of Civil Service and Bureaucratic Reform Rini Widyantini reported that the first week of WFH implementation showed encouraging results. She emphasized that the policy has been applied smoothly across central government agencies and has maintained performance levels.

Both ministers agree that continuous evaluation will guide future adjustments. The WFH policy remains a tool to balance fiscal prudence with operational continuity, reflecting the government's cautious approach to economic management.
